Home

CPAA and its member organizations are working hard to create a no-kill community in central Pennsylvania. The animals featured on this page are a testament to our member groups' rescue and rehoming efforts. Each of these animals needs -- and deserves -- a home of its own. Won't you consider adopting one of them?

Burt and Ernie

Burt and Ernie are two sweet dogs that were found abandoned around Eizabethtown, PA. Burt is a Spaniel, about 6-7 years old, grey white and in good shape. Ernie is a male golden mix, maybe 10-11 years old, showing age, is about 60 pounds, and has red-brown short hair. Both are gentle, inseparable, and quiet. These guys are available together for a special adoption fee. Please give them a chance at a new life!

These are awesome dogs and would make a wonderful companion for a special family that is home most or all of the day to continue to give them reassurance and lots of TLC. They would be ideal for a retired couple to relax and enjoy the rest of their lives with. Please open your hearts to these precious boys and if you are interested, please fill out our online adoption application. For more information, contact Cheryl at cyshelties@comcast.net.

Chester

How About Me?

Chester was found as a stray living on the streets of Palmyra when he was humanely trapped by one of our volunteers. After being neutered, we discovered that he was quite a friendly gentleman, but he had some health issues that needed attention. Chester had a severe chemical burn on his front paw, ear infections, feline herpes, and a bladder infection. Wow -- this poor guy needed help badly! PAWS went to work and gave him lots of love and TLC. With special care, this orange and white lover boy has recovered nicely. We believe Chester is about eight years old. He is one of the most affectionate cats you could ever meet. A true lap cat, Chester loves people, but would prefer to be an only cat. Chester forms close bonds with the people he loves, and doesn't want to share his “people” with another cat.

Chester eats a special food because of his old urinary problem. The special food isn't much trouble, and it's kept the urinary problem at bay. Chester has been in foster care for a while, and is anxious to go to his forever home. He loves to play, he’s cute, and he's loveable -- won't you give him a try? If you're interested in learning more about Chester, please contact Michelle at michelle@kaley.net.

Snickers

Snickers was found as a stray in the Harrisburg suburbs. Her foster mom calls her a "small apartment" cat because she rarely ventures out of one room even though she has a whole house that she could explore. Snickers doesn't demand a lot of attention and would be fine with someone who isn't home a lot. In spite of her independence, Snickers is a good companion cat and is always happy to see her caregiver. She's affectionate, very easy to care for, and is a perfect litter box user.

Snickers would be happiest in a quiet household with no more than one other cat and no small children. She's 2-3 years old, spayed, current on her shots, tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and recently received a clean bill of health from her vet. Snickers has her own web page at www.castawaycritters.org, where online adoption applications are available. For more information on Snickers, please contact Annette at alr@paonline.com.

Jordan

Jordan is a three-year-old male German Shepherd Dog mix who is looking for an energetic family who will take him on long walks or jogs. While he prefers to be the only male dog in the house, he doesn't mind sharing space with cats. Jordan lived with a trainer for a year and was taught basic manners to keep his enthusiastic nature in check. After burning off some of his energy, he loves to cuddle up on the couch and watch TV. Jordan is always ready to go for a car ride, or just hang out with kids and adults. He's a very happy guy, fully of energy, and ready to do whatever you like to do -- he just really wants to find a special family who will continue to exercise him, continue to reinforce the good manners that he has already learned, and love him for the rest of his life.

If you are an active family and looking for an active dog to match, contact Robin at furryfriendsnet@aol.com for more information. You can fill out an adoption application on the Furry Friends Network web site, www.furryfriendsnetwork.com (Look under How to Adopt).

If you would like to see Jordan in person, stop by the "Race for their Lives" charity fundraiser on September 22. Learn how to sponsor Jordan by clicking here.

Clay

Clay is a three-year-old orange male domestic short hair kitty who has been in the Furry Friends Network foster care program since he and his brother were found as young kittens roaming the streets of New Cumberland. Clay’s brother, Morgan, found his forever home long ago, but Clay’s shy personality has made his search for a special adoptive home a little more challenging.

Clay is confident with other cats, eager to interact with them and rub up against them and would be a great companion cat for any feline; however, he is a little hesitant with humans. Although he loves to be petted and to be near his special people, he's still a little shy around strangers and would do best in a home that generally is calm and quiet. One of Clay's favorite pastimes is to sit in the window and watch the birds go by. His favorite toys are jingle bell balls that roll across the floor and those little furry mice!!!

Like Jordan, above, Clay is participating in the fundraising challenge for the Furry Friends Network's "Race for their Lives." If you would like to sponsor Clay, click here.

Clay has become very comfortable in his current foster home and would love to find the same comfort in a forever home that will be patient with him and love him for who he is. For more information about Clay, contact Shawna at ffncatwoman@comcast.net, or fill out an adoption application on the Furry Friends Network web site, www.furryfriendsnetwork.com (look under How to Adopt).

Sunny

Help us to help Sunny. She is a sweet, wonderful Pit Bull that was found pregnant and tied to a fence in Lancaster in 2005. Sunny had her babies within hours of her rescue. Only two of them survived, but both have been adopted into great homes.

Sunny's front legs are deformed and it is painful for her to walk. Our orthopedic surgeon is confident that she can straighten Sunny’s front legs and is giving us a HUGE discount on the operations, but it will still cost us about $3,000 to fix both of her legs. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donations to Sunny's care are tax-deductible.

Sunny is in a great foster home, and they've been working diligently to get her in tip top shape for her surgery. If you can help Sunny, please send donations to:

The Phoenix Rescue Group
PO Box 833
Carlisle PA  17013

Or, use Paypal on our website at www.thephoenixrescuegroup.org.

On behalf of Sunny, thank you!!
