Member Groups

The Central Pennsylvania Animal alliance is a non-profit alliance of nearly 50 shelter and rescue groups formed to stop the needless suffering of dogs, cats, and other companion animals in our region. By working together, we can build a no-kill community in central Pennsylvania and save the lives of all adoptable and treatable companion animals. Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue

Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue’s goal is rescuing English Setters in need of new homes.

Adams County Prevent A Litter Society Inc.

Adams County Prevent-A-Litter Society, Inc is a local, nonprofit, all volunteer organization that raises funds for and promotes spaying and neutering of dogs and cats to decrease the number of unwanted animals in Adams County.

Adams County SPCA

The Adams County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is an IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that will provide shelter and care for lost, abandoned, and abused animals; investigate and prosecute cruelty offenders; help control animal overpopulation; and educate the community about spay/neuter programs, animal wellness, and safety.

Animal Rescue Food Bank (no website)

Provides animal food to shelters and rescues.

Animal Resource Center of Bloomsburg PA

The Animal Resource Center of Bloomsburg PA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide shelter for homeless, abused, and neglected domestic animals; educate the public on the welfare and care of cats and dogs; and act as advocates for animal rights.

Antietam Humane Society Inc.

We are a non-profit humane shelter dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of humane treatment for all animals through education and enforcement of Pennsylvania’s anti-cruelty laws.

Bad Press (Breed Anti-Defamation, Protection, and Rescue Society Inc.)

The organization's primary goals are:

  1. To combat, via advertising and public education, the myths and misunderstandings regarding dog breeds that have gained undeserved reputations for viciousness or other negative traits (i.e., “stigmatized” dog breeds) by educating the public on the true nature of such breeds; educating the public on the origins of myths and misunderstandings; educating the public on dog behavior and proper safety practices to reduce the number of dog bite incidents; and educating the owners of such breeds on responsible ownership to avoid incidents and promote better public acceptance of such breeds;

  2. To encourage responsible breeding practices regarding such breeds by: encouraging breeders of stigmatized dog breeds to selectively breed for good health and temperament; encouraging breeders to limit the number of litters produced; encouraging breeders to carefully screen prospective buyers to insure that purchasers of such dogs will properly care for them and take the proper responsibility for the training and socialization of the animals; and encouraging spaying and neutering of all dogs not intended for use in planned breeding;

  3. To promote adoption of stigmatized dog breeds from animal shelters and animal fostering organizations;

  4. To assist and promote, via monetary contributions, volunteerism, and such other activities as may from time to time be determined by the officers, any animal welfare organizations, shelters, fostering organizations, and rescue groups who are involved in the care, rehoming, and/or protection of stigmatized dog breeds; and

  5. To provide general information on stigmatized dog breeds to the public via both direct education and referral to knowledgeable organizations, websites, and publications.

Bella Luna Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (no website)

Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue

Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue (BLRR) is a non profit volunteer organization that specializes in placing Labs and Lab mixes. BLRR serves areas of Pennsylvania and New Jersey depending on the number and availability of our volunteers.

Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania

Canine Rescue of Central PA, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are an all-volunteer group that is dedicated to providing assistance to any dog in a helpless situation. We do not typically adopt out further than one-two hours travel time out of our area. Our dogs are housed in a kennel a few miles south of Dillsburg, PA.

CARES Rescue (Companion Animal Rescue Elite Services)

Companion Animal Rescue Elite Services is a non-profit organization whose goal is to rescue stray, abandoned, or unwanted companion animals. We do not take in sick or injured pets. Our services are offered to all of Lancaster County. Our priority is in finding homes for companion animals in need. We do not work with WILDLIFE, INJURED, FERAL (wild), SICK, or aggressive animals.

Castaway Critters, the James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation

Castaway Critters is a no-kill organization with the primary goal of helping sick and abandoned animals. We promote trap, alter, and return for feral cats, support feral cat colonies, and rehabilitate and place feral kittens.

Central Pennsylvania Pug Rescue

Central PA Pug Rescue is a small organization devoted to the welfare of unwanted and abandoned Pugs. We will not turn away any Pug who needs help, no matter what issues he/she may have.

Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center Inc.

The aim of the Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center, Inc. is to help needy Cocker Spaniels find loving homes by displaying their pictures and descriptions and by telling their stories – to the best possible extent. We will also provide information on how and where to adopt them. Although we are a Maryland corporation, we will try to find homes for Cocker Spaniels wherever they need them. We will post information from all over the United States and beyond as it comes to us.

Compassionate Hearts Animal Rescue

Our mission is to find forever homes for stray, abandoned, and homeless cats and dogs through a compassionate volunteer adoption program.

Doberman Rescue Inc.

Doberman Rescue Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose primary goal is to rescue abused, abandoned, and unwanted Dobermans and place them in suitable, safe, and loving homes. We provide Doberman adoption in Sewickley, PA (near Pittsburgh). We rescue primarily pure-bred Doberman Pinschers but, in urgent circumstances we help Dobe mixes and other breeds.

Dogs’ Den, The

The Dogs Den is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and publicly supported group dedicated to improving the quality of life for pets through education and adoption.

Eskie Rescuers United

Our mission is to:

  • Help American Eskimo Dogs in need of rescue.

  • Reduce the population of American Eskimo Dogs in shelters, humane societies, and in rescue.

  • Promote education to the general public regarding the problem of unwanted American Eskimo Dogs and how to prevent it by discouraging indiscriminate breeding.

  • Protect American Eskimo Dogs from abuse and cruelty.

  • Prohibit any American Eskimo Dog from being adopted or released for the purpose of research or experimental use.

  • Operate as a functional rescue organization that will take in and provide the proper shelter, veterinarian care, socialization, rehabilitation and placement into caring and responsible homes.

  • Network with other rescue organizations (pure-breed and all-breed) to draw attention to American Eskimo Dogs in need of rescue when we are unable to take them into our rescue (due to resource constraints or other concerns).

  • Cooperate with local and state laws in every state with their activities related to the rescue and care of American Eskimo Dogs.

Far Point Collie Rescue

Far Point Collie Rescue and K-9 Companions 4 Life Rescue have joined to form a small rescue dedicated to saving as many lives as possible through adoption and by increasing public awareness on the importance of spaying/neutering and the need for responsible pet care.

Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals

Our mission as a no kill shelter is to accept adoptable cats and dogs and provide loving care while looking for permanent homes.

Furry Friends Network

Furry Friends Network is a group of animal lovers that work together to facilitate the adoptions of unwanted animals.

GoldHeart Golden Retriever Rescue

GoldHeart Golden Retriever Rescue and its network of volunteers are dedicated to the rescue of unwanted, abused, neglected and displaced Golden Retrievers.

Happy Paws Happy Homes

By networking with other animal welfare organizations in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio and by providing transportation for these dogs, Happy Paws Happy Homes has successfully saved healthy dogs who would have been euthanized and helped them one step closer to forever homes.

Harrisburg Shetland Sheepdog Club

Rescue is an important part of any breed club. Many of our members at sometime have adopted a rescue dog/s or on their own initiative or with help from Harrisburg Shetland Sheepdog Club (HSSC) or other rescues, have fostered shelties. HSSC’s rescue program works with other rescue groups in our area by sometimes fostering rescues, transporting rescues, and also by giving monetary donations to other rescue groups. Our rescue coordinator works as a contact to help people find the Sheltie Rescue group that can assist them, if we cannot personally help them.

Helping Hands for Animals Inc. (no website)

Homeward Bound Animal Rescue

We are a no kill animal rescue that was founded due to our love for animals that are less fortunate. We actively promote spay/neuter for all pets. All of the pets that come to us were in danger of being euthanized at the shelters they were housed in.

Huntingdon County Humane Society

The Huntingdon County Humane Society is an IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It does not euthanize any adoptable animal. An animal that is deemed extremely aggressive, tests positive for feline leukemia or feline AIDS, or is extremely feral is not able to be adopted.

Italian Greyhound Club of America

Italian Greyhound Club of America rescue is a club sponsored re-homing service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes, or surrendered to rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. Occasionally, dogs are turned over to rescue because the owner can no longer keep the dog and the dog was acquired from a source to which it cannot be returned.

Kathryn LaBar Animal Foundation (no website)

Keystone Greyhounds

Keystone Greyhounds is a part of Greyhound Pets of America, Inc. a national non-profit organization dedicated to finding responsible homes for retired racing Greyhounds. We are an all volunteer group based in South Central PA. Our goal is to place the right hound in the right home and to promote public awareness about what excellent, loving pets these noble dogs make.

Keystone Pet-Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS)

KPETS is a non-profit organization established to promote Animal Assisted Therapy/Animal Assisted Activities by recruiting, educating, uniting, and coordinating volunteers with the facilities, social agencies, and special-needs programs whose clients may benefit from the healing and rehabilitating effects of the animal/human bond. The unconditional love of our pets is shared with those of all ages and from all walks of life.

Kitz and Katz Animal Foundation

Our goal is to help reduce the stray population by preventing many unwanted litters and to help defer the spay/neuter costs for the public.

Klemko Akita Rescue Family

Our mission is to match homeless Akitas with potential families; to help correct behavioral issues with dogs and their families; and to always be on call to offer information, boarding, and training to Akita owners.

Last Resort Animal Sanctuary Inc.

The Last Resort Animal Sanctuary, Inc. is a no-kill nonprofit domestic animal sanctuary in York County. We provide care and affection for unwanted, abandoned, special needs, and stray cats and rabbits. We make every attempt to find loving forever homes for our adoptable animals, and provide lifetime care to those who are not adopted, unadoptable, or feral.

Lebanon County Dog Park Association

Our mission is to establish a safe, off-leash environment for dogs and their humans to promote socialization and responsible dog ownership in Lebanon County, PA.

Merrick Fund Foundation, The

Provides funding for catastrophic and emergency medical care for un-owned animals.

Mostly Mutts Inc.

Mostly Mutts is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals by: providing shelter for abused, neglected, or indigent cats and dogs; educating the public about the welfare, rights, and care of animals; and acting as advocates for animal rights.

New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network Inc.

New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network, Inc. and its members are committed to finding permanent, loving homes for rescued Miniature Schnauzers and Schnauzer mixes throughout the northeastern United States. We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that receives no government funding.

Ninth Life Kitties (no website)

Open Arms Resq & Refurral

Open Arms ResQ & Refurral is a home based rescue that deals with all types of animals. While we mainly deal with cats and dogs, we are open to take in birds and exotics, including reptiles. We also have many referrals that we will gladly pass along if we can not take the animal in ourselves. All of our rescues stay in the house with us and live as part of the family. We have no kennels and none of our animals are segregated within the house. We are always happy to answer any questions on specific breeds, nutrition or just general education.

PA Pets/Columbia-Montour Chapter (no website)

PA Pets/Northumberland, Snyder and Union Branch

The Northumberland/Snyder/Union county branch of PA P.E.T.S. (Pennsylvania Prevent Excess Through Sterilization) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping solve the pet overpopulation problem in Northumberland, Snyder, and Union counties by helping to finance the cost of spaying or neutering pets of low-income individuals and families. We also strive to educate the public on proper pet care and other related topics.

Parks for Pooches

Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of dogs and their human caretakers by promoting exercise, socialization, and responsible dog ownership in an off-leash environment.

PAWS

PAWS is a no-kill animal rescue and spay/neuter group dedicated to saving the lives of companion animals through spaying and neutering, pet fostering and adoption, and educational efforts. We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that receives no government funding.

Personalized Greyhounds

Personalized Greyhounds, Inc. is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation providing Greyhound adoption services in the Harrisburg area, other parts of Central Pennsylvania, suburban Philadelphia, and northern Maryland.

Pet Guardians

It is the mission of the Pet Guardians to seek homes for pets that belong to patients who are sick or terminally ill. We will do our best to find safe homes for the beloved pets of our clients.

Pets Come First Inc.

An all volunteer non-profit organization committed to ensuring responsible animal shelter management and providing both human and monetary resources to assist adoptable homeless animals and financially challenged pet owners.

Phoenix Rescue Group, The

Our main priority is to provide immediate safety and comfort for companion animals that are in danger because of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. We will provide for their needs and work with other rescue groups to find permanent loving homes for them.

Rescue Me – Yorkie Rescue

Rescue Me is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Yorkshire Terrier breed.

Saint Bernard Rescue Foundation Inc.

To act as a shepherd for Saint Bernard dogs and puppies that are without suitable caretakers and are in need of help; to shelter the homeless; to care for and find homes for the unwanted, abandoned, neglected, and abused; to feed the hungry; to provide medical services to the sick, injured, and lame; to assist in the rescue of those subjected to conditions hazardous to their well-being or to confinement in government or private shelter, who without intervention would be needlessly euthanized; to provide for the humane disposition of those not sound in mind, body, or temperament; to educate the public as to the characteristics of, and proper care for, the breed so as to promote compatible, loving, lasting home/family placements; to educate the public as to responsible pet ownership so as to prevent accidental litters and to prevent inhumane trafficking in puppies and dogs, and so as to promote the most humane manner of disposition of pets at journey's end; to encourage, promote and support research respecting the breed that explores or improves relations between the breed and owners or sheds light on the causes of abandonment, neglect or abuse, or promotes the public’s understanding of the special characteristics and attributes of the breed or that is designed to improve the welfare of the breed in any manner.

Save A Yorkie Rescue Inc.

SAYRescue is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) qualified, all volunteer organization based in southeastern PA. Our mission is to save Yorkies and Yorkie mixes who need help finding a home. We also pledge our efforts to educate the public about the needs of this tiny breed.

Starfish to the Sea Animal Rescue

Starfish to the Sea Animal Rescue is a multi-species rescue based in Southwestern PA.

Tri-State Weimaraner Rescue Inc.

Tri-State is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abandoned, unwanted, and stray purebred Weimaraners throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

Susquehanna Valley Collie and Sheltie Rescue (SVSCR)

SVSCR is dedicated to the purpose of rescue and the housing and placement of abused, neglected, or abandoned collies and shelties in permanent homes. We believe that all collies and shelties, regardless of age, temperament, or physical condition deserve a chance to live without abuse of any kind.

Tail to Tell Inc., A

A Tail to Tell rescues dogs (primarily older breeding stock) from puppy mills in Pennsylvania.

WAG Inc. (We Adopt Greyhounds)

WAG is an all-volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit Greyhound Adoption group based in Connecticut.

York County SPCA

The York County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing long-term human and animal services to residents of York County through programs that find permanent, loving homes for displaced and stray animals, help control animal population growth, investigate and prosecute cruelty offenders, and educate the general public about animal wellness and safety.
